Returning to Firetop Mountain, A New Fighting Fantasy Map
Firetop Mountain is one of those places in Fighting Fantasy that keeps drawing you back.
For my latest addition to the Fighting Fantasy Map Collection, I returned to the world of Zagor with a new map of Ian Livingstone’s A Return to Firetop Mountain.
This book is the middle part of the Zagor trilogy, between The Warlock of Firetop
Mountain and The Legend of Zagor. I already created a map for The Legend of Zagor, but that one was drawn years ago, before I developed the isometric perspective style I use today. It therefore has a completely different, more traditional 2D approach.

For A Return to Firetop Mountain, I wanted to explore the adventure in isometric perspective and create a map with a stronger sense of depth and place.
One of the most enjoyable parts of working on this map was comparing it with my earlier The Warlock of Firetop Mountain map. Looking at the old and new layouts side by side, I could trace familiar passages, search for similarities, and discover how much had changed inside Zagor’s domain. Some areas felt strangely familiar, while others revealed completely new routes and locations.

The map combines detailed isometric environments with illustrated characters, creatures and key scenes from the adventure, all brought together into one large fantasy artwork.
The map had its premiere at Fighting Fantasy Fest 6 this September, making it a particularly fitting place to reveal a new interpretation of one of Fighting Fantasy’s most iconic adventures.
A Return to Firetop Mountain is now part of the growing Fighting Fantasy Map

Collection, a series of digital maps exploring the worlds and adventures that have made these gamebooks so memorable.
